Bikes for All event showcases adaptive bikes
Drop in for free demos and trial rides?
Local youth and adults with mobility, sensory and other disabilities are invited to drop by a Bikes for All event that takes place 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 9 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds Sheep Barn, 1200 NW Fairgrounds Road, Bremerton.
The Kitsap County Accessible Communities Advisory Committee (ACAC) and Kitsap Public Health District are partnering with the national nonprofit Outdoors for All to host an adaptive bike demonstration, showcasing recumbent (reclining) and tandem bikes and handcycles. These adaptive bikes provide a way for people with varying mobility to get outside and ride.
?We are so excited for this opportunity to share what possibilities are available for physical activity for all our community members,? ACAC member Ranae Beeker said.
Registration is not required and walk-ins are welcome. Timeslots to take adaptive bikes on trial rides can be reserved in advance by completing the Outdoors for All liability form. Once the form is received, registrants will be contacted by Outdoors for All to confirm a timeslot.
Bring your own helmet or borrow one at the event. Water and light snacks will be available for participants.
For questions about the event, contact Ranae Beeker at [email protected].
The Kitsap County Accessible Communities Advisory Committee is an advisory committee to Kitsap County government whose purpose is to support disability awareness and access through technical assistance and other resources. For more information, go to kcowa.us/ACAC. New members are welcome!
