Team,
Last week, the Biden Administration asked Congress for an additional $2 billion in funding for the Department of Homeland Security. That’s ON TOP of the $25 billion they requested for ICE and CBP earlier this year.
Enough is enough — the buck has to stop somewhere. We’re calling on Congress to REJECT this request for additional funding and instead invest in real solutions.
We shouldn’t have to use taxpayer dollars to fund agencies built on demonizing, criminalizing, and abusing immigrant and border communities.
This extra funding would help reinstate a new form of family detention, bolster funds for harmful surveillance and data sharing, and facilitate the rapid deportations of migrants exercising their legal right to seek asylum.
Instead of wasting more taxpayer money on hate and abuse, Congress should focus on investing in our communities, including funding community-based programs that live up to our values of welcoming immigrants and asylum seekers.
Our immigration policies should be rooted in our shared values of community and compassion, not hatred and xenophobia, which are at the core of ICE and CBP’s mission.
It’s time for pro-immigrant leaders in Congress to live up to their promises and halt the expansion of the deportation machine — and it’s on us to hold them accountable.
