Dear Friends,
Ask anyone what they think of when they hear “Memphis” and you will most certainly get a list that includes music, food, and innovation. Memphis is the birthplace of blues, soul, and rock‘n’roll. Our city has produced legendary musicians and artists who have shaped American culture. We have world-class museums, music festivals, and theaters. Our neighborhoods are filled with public art, eclectic architecture, and local businesses loaded with character.
Memphis’ authentically rich arts and culture scene is unmatched by any other city in America. Our music, food, and overall vibe create a distinct flavor that simply cannot be replicated. You can feel the difference when walking on Beale Street, watching the sunset over the Mississippi river, or biting into barbecue cooked low and slow in the true Memphis style. Our arts and culture help define Memphis as a diverse talent-mecca and a truly one-of-a-kind city.
As Mayor, I want to ensure Memphis' arts and culture continue to thrive. Our creative spirit not only enriches our quality of life, but is also a key economic driver that supports jobs and attracts tourism. I will make arts and culture a priority by taking steps like:
*
Listening
to
and
collaborating
with
the
artistic
community
to
leverage
our
cultural
assets
even
further.
*
Creating
an
official
cultural
liaison
position
to
support
and
promote
strategic
arts/cultural
programming
in
our
community.
This
will
help
our
working
artists
continue
to
prosper
while
furthering
our
position
as
a
music
and
culture
city.
*
Identifying
successful
cultural
programs
and
expanding
grant
funds
to
help
them
grow.
This
will
strengthen
existing
organizations
doing
great
work.
*
Establishing
new
signature
events
that
highlight
Memphis’
talent
and
appeal
to
both
locals
and
visitors.
This
will
bring
people
together
to
celebrate
what
makes
Memphis
special.
Ours is a heritage and flavor like no other. With the right leadership, ours can also be a city with a thriving future like no other. Let’s win this election on October 5th, so we can build a better Memphis for all of us.
Let’s go!
