John,
It’s summer holiday season with parliament in recess. As Rishi Sunak jetted off to sunnier climes, attention focused at home on the urgent need to invest heavily in public transport to encourage people out of cars and planes. Scroll down to find out what's going on at the party and how you can get involved 🔽

Co-leader Adrian Ramsey criticised plans to increase rail fares and close ticket offices at railway stations stating it underscored the Government’s contempt for climate action and the travelling public. He said rail travel needed to be made cheaper and more attractive to encourage more passengers and help meet the UK’s climate targets.

Labour’s refusal to rescind new North Sea oil and gas licenses in Government shows they support Tory party policy on fossil fuel expansion, contends Carla Denyer. Otherwise they would pledge to revoke the licenses which would make the exploration unviable financially and accelerate the transition to cleaner, renewable energy.

The APPG on climate change has written to Energy Secretary Grant Shapps urging him to block drilling at Rosebank. Caroline Lucas, who chairs the group, said approving Rosebank in a climate emergency would be “morally obscene”. It's the largest undeveloped oil field in the North Sea, and is expected to get the go ahead shortly.

The Government should ditch its “stop the boats” strategy for a “welcome refugees’ week”. Commenting on the ongoing Bibby Stockholm saga, Benali Hemdache, spokesperson on migration and refugees, said asylum seekers should be accommodated in flats or houses - not barges like prisoners.

Anthony Slaughter has called for Wales to become “a renewables power house” after the announcement that the country’s last opencast mine is to close. The Wales Green Party leader said there needs to be investment in green jobs so the 180 workers at the Ffos-y-Fran site, due to be made redundant, can find alternative work.

Sian Berry’s campaign to become Brighton Pavilion’s next Green MP is gathering momentum. Her first election leaflet hit voters doormats earlier this month with a strong endorsement from Caroline Lucas: “Whether we have another cruel and callous Tory Government, or a flip flopping and timid Labour Government, Sian will hold them to account. She won’t be forced to toe the party line like other MPs are.”
Help get our skilled and passionate Green leaders ready to win in the next General Election by joining upcoming action days:

“I still remember when I first heard about the Ecology Party as it then was. I was hoovering the living room and half listening to the radio. Suddenly, I stopped hoovering and gave the radio my full attention. Jonathon Porritt was talking and I realised that for what seemed like the first time ever a politician was actually making sense.”
There has been a brilliant response to our 50 Years campaign. Over 8000 people visited Clothing this Naked Earth, Politics and the Planet, at the LSE over the past 6 months. The exhibition contained items from the new Green party archive, some of which we will be on display again at conference in Brighton in October. Lots of fascinating stories too have been shared by members past and present about how they first got involved in the party. There is still time to share your story or make a donation to the campaign. All proceeds go towards getting the next generation of Green MPs elected.
