Who’s ruining summer fun with extreme heat? It’s not just who you might think…
John,
July was the hottest month ever recorded, with cities around the world experiencing record-breaking heat. Meanwhile, oil and gas companies continue to unconscionably spew pollution into the atmosphere – further threatening our climate and our future. They’re working hand-in-hand with plastic manufacturers, who make plastic from the byproducts of fracking.
Plastic manufacturing companies have a lot to gain from the continued extraction and burning of fossil fuels. The fracking process creates the raw materials needed to create plastics, making them cheaper and more abundant in our world already full of plastic pollution.
Not so fun fact: Over 99% of plastic is made from chemicals sourced from fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels cause dangerous, extreme weather, like deadly heat, climate warming greenhouse gasses and more plastic pollution. The fight against plastics and the fight for our climate are deeply connected, and require us shutting down fossil fuels once and for all. That’s exactly what Food & Water Watch is fighting for.
Food & Water Watch and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Action, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
