Dear City Limits friends,
Since 1976, City Limits has built a strong legacy of elevating the narrative on the rights for affordable housing and the underlying issues of homelessness in New York City. While much has changed over the past 47 years, today we face a housing and homelessness crisis that makes our mission as relevant and important as ever.
Our nonprofit newsroom relies on the support of readers like you. We invite you to join us at our Annual Gala on October 26th to support our work on behalf of all New Yorkers, and to celebrate 47 years of reporting on the city we love. Join us to honor four New Yorkers who exemplify our values to create a more just and equitable city.

Your generosity directly impacts our ability to address housing and homelessness issues that affect the most vulnerable members of our community. Here are some highlights and achievements from the past year:
• |
We published over 300 stories under our housing & homelessness beat and extensively covered the plight of the city's growing homeless population. |
• |
We expanded our reach by producing impactful multimedia content. This includes a short documentary film portraying the challenges faced by three mothers navigating the city's homeless shelter system. |
• |
To make our reporting more accessible, we translated dozens of our housing stories into Spanish. |
• |
Our reporting has not only been amplified through larger, mainstream media, but has had a tangible impact in shaping policies and decisions. For instance, our Shelter Tracker project, which monitors the number of people in the city's shelter system, was highlighted in The New Yorker. In response, the City Council passed legislation that will require city agencies involved in sheltering New Yorkers to produce a more complete report of who it is serving and how. |
• |
Our senior housing reporter, Emma Whitford, recently reported that the City Council is considering a bill that would mandate monthly reports on street homeless sweeps, seeking to increase transparency and accountability for these operations. |
• |
Our coverage of New York's supportive housing network received the Merit Award for Investigative Reporting from the Silurians Press Club. |
We invite you to support our critical mission by purchasing Gala tickets, reserving a table, or sharing our sponsorship opportunities with organizations that may offer their support. If you’re not able to attend but would like to offer your support, please donate here.
Thank you in advance for your support which makes it possible for us to do our vital work on behalf of all New Yorkers.
Warm regards,
Marjorie W. Martay
