Jack, the biggest banks are investing trillions into emission spewing fossil fuel projects that accelerate our already dire climate crisis and contribute to appalling human rights violations of those impacted the most by climate change.

Wildfires, flooding, record breaking heat, and tropical storms on the west coast of the U.S.: We are in the midst of the climate catastrophe.
Yet global banks, who outwardly pledge climate commitments, continue to fund fossil fuels, the number one driver of the climate crisis. Hypocritical and dangerous? Hell yes.
Congress can and must rein this in, and they need to do so ASAP. Congress must pass the Fossil Free Finance Act, which would require big banks to stop financing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.

This month, we saw a deadly wildfire devastate Maui, Hawaii due to drought conditions and hurricane-induced winds exacerbated by the climate crisis. And that’s on top of this summer’s record shattering heat waves that hit much of the U.S.
As long as the climate crisis remains unchecked, these devastating weather events will not just continue but will increase in frequency. To have any hope of avoiding the worst impacts of climate change, we must take immediate and drastic action to stop burning fossil fuels. Yet, the world’s largest banks continue to support the major drivers of the climate crisis, pouring $673 billion into fossil fuel companies last year alone.

The Fossil Free Finance Act has been reintroduced in Congress. This legislation would require big banks to stop financing greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 and instead lend and invest responsibly. This would also align bank lending with U.S. obligations under the Paris Agreement.
The first step to getting out of a hole is to stop digging it deeper. Banks must stop funding fossil fuel expansion NOW!
