*Continuing Education Requirement*

At the time of renewing a license, licensees must certify whether they have complied with the continuing education requirement of the Board of Real Estate Appraisers.? Each year the Board performs continuing education audits on a specified percentage of licensees who renew their licenses with the Board. Six licensees failed the 2022 audit.

The Board consistently resolves complaints involving the first instance of a licensee who is not in compliance with the continuing education requirement by offering a consent agreement that imposes disciplinary sanction of a warning and a civil penalty of $200.00.? The consent agreement also requires the licensee to complete whatever continuing education hours were deficient at the time of renewal and prohibits the licensee from using these hours toward satisfying any other continuing education requirements.

Please take time to review your continuing education certificates prior to renewing your license which expires December 31, 2023. You are required to have 14 hours of Appraiser Qualifications Board (AQB) or Maine Board of Real Estate Appraisers approved continuing education. The 7- Hour National USPAP Update Course is required as part of the 14 hours for even year renewals. This is an odd-year renewal, so you are _NOT_ required to have the 7-Hour National USPAP Update Course for your upcoming renewal.
