Becoming President of the United States won't happen overnight. It's going to take long days, long weeks, and long months of hard work. But three months in… we're in a very strong position going into the first debate.
Once I'm in office, one of the first things I want to tackle is the issue of education. Every child in every zip code deserves quality education.
I started a School Choice Caucus eight years ago. I've been on the topic of school choice because as a kid, I grew up in a single parent household, mired in poverty. I went to four different elementary schools by the fourth grade. And so I know that it's really hard for a parent in poverty to find a good school.
So when I saw Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds pass monumental school choice, making it easier for parents all over the state of Iowa to have school choice, it got my attention. And frankly, I celebrate her success because education is the closest thing to magic.
The good news about America is this: Our future is not dependent on the color of your skin, it is dependent on the quality of your education. Getting that right is the future of the most remarkable country on God's green earth.
I didn't do very well in school - I thought I had an excuse to fail because my dad was not around. My mama looked at me and she said, "you can be a victim or you can become victorious."She chose victory and so do I. Let's win this thing!
