850 People Still Missing in Lahaina as Biden Finally Visits a Ravaged Maui
Wall Street Journal: Nearly two weeks after a devastating fire tore through Lahaina, 850 people remain missing, the county’s mayor said ahead of a visit from President Biden. At least 114 people died in the fire in Lahaina, the deadliest U.S. wildfire in more than a century. The fire left behind a landscape of more than 2,200 destroyed buildings and burnt-out vehicles in the historic former capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom that became a popular tourist destination. Officials have estimated that rebuilding will cost nearly $6 billion. About 85% of the disaster site had been searched as of Sunday, according to Maui County officials ( Wall Street Journal). RNC Research: Maui residents are lining the road amid Biden’s visit — with signs saying “he’s too late,” “he should’ve been here much earlier,” and “actions speak louder than words” ( Twitter).

Republicans Subpoena FBI, IRS Officials in Investigation into Delaying Hunter Biden’s Investigation
Washington Examiner: A pair of Republican chairmen subpoenaed four officials at the FBI and IRS on Monday to appear before Congress for depositions related to the Department of Justice’s investigation of Hunter Biden, escalating a fight over access to investigators into the president’s son. House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) and House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) wrote in letters accompanying the subpoenas that they believed the officials had information about a critical meeting last year attended by special counsel David Weiss, the lead prosecutor in Biden’s case ( Washington Examiner). Associated Press: Shapley and another IRS employee, Joe Ziegler, have testified to Congress that there was a pattern of “slow-walking investigative steps” and delaying enforcement actions in the Hunter Biden case, including during the Trump administration, in the months before the 2020 election ( Associated Press).

Report Reveals Hunter Biden Nearly Wormed His Way Out of Pleading Guilty if it Was Not for the IRS Whistleblower
Guy Benson: Communications records indicate Weiss was preparing to close his years-long investigation, during which he’d inexplicably allowed statues of limitations to expire on what people familiar with the probe say were clear-cut felonies, to end without so much as a single guilty plea from Hunter Biden. On anything. He would have faced no justice on his tax evasion crimes, or the open-and-shut gun felony, or any possible FARA violations and other illegal activity that may have arisen over the course of the process. A total walk. Only when IRS agents blew the whistle on how the investigation was being handled, alleging special treatment and improper interference, did Weiss “suddenly” decide that some sort of guilty plea would be required. This strongly points to a thoroughly and unacceptably politicized process ( Townhall). NY Post reporter Paul Sperry: The ORIGINAL proposed deal for Hunter Biden, drafted by prosecutor David Weiss’s deputy Lesley Wolf, did not require Hunter to plead guilty to ANYTHING and was changed WITHIN DAYS of IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley going public with favoritism charges ( Twitter).

White House Urges Americans to Get Covid Booster Shots
Fox News: President Biden’s administration is preparing another program to encourage Americans to get booster shots for COVID-19 in the coming months. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reported an increase in COVID-19 infections across the U.S., though it remains far below levels seen during the pandemic. The Biden administration plans to urge Americans to get booster shots this fall. The news comes days after the CDC and World Health Organization (WHO) revealed they are tracking another variant of the virus that causes COVID-19 ( Fox News). Collin Rugg: The Biden admin will be telling Americans to get yet another covid-19 booster shot in the coming weeks, despite past vaccines and boosters not protecting people from the virus. How many times are people going to fall for this? A White House official said: “We will be encouraging all Americans to get those boosters in addition to flu shots and Respiratory Syncytial Virus shots” ( Twitter).

Several California Community College Professors Sue State for Violating First Amendment
Washington Examiner: A group of six community college professors in California are suing the state over its requirements to include diversity, equity, and inclusion elements in their courses. The Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression filed a lawsuit on behalf of the professors from three community colleges in Fresno County earlier this week. The professors claim the mandate violates their First Amendment rights. “These regulations are a totalitarian triple-whammy,” FIRE attorney Daniel Ortner said in a statement Thursday. “The government is forcing professors to teach and preach a politicized viewpoint they do not share, imposing incomprehensible guidelines, and threatening to punish professors when they cross an arbitrary, indiscernible line.” The colleges represented in the lawsuit include four professors from Madera Community College, one from Reedley College, and one from Clovis Community College ( Washington Examiner). National Review: The “California Community Colleges’ new diversity, equity, inclusion and accessibility rules force professors to endorse the government’s view on politically charged questions regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility,” the lawsuit reads. An official glossary of terms published by California Community Colleges includes a definitions of anti-racism which suggests that people “that say they are ‘not a racist’ are in denial” and claims that “color-blindness” is responsible for perpetuating “existing racial inequities and denies systemic racism” ( National Review).

California School District Considering Policy to Notify Parents of Their Child’s Gender Identity
Townhall: A third California school district may soon adopt a policy that would require schools to keep parents in the loop when it comes to their children’s education and gender identity. Reportedly, Orange Unified School District in Southern California is considering the policy. If passed, the principals, certified staff, and counselors would be required to notify parents in writing within three school days if a student identifies as a gender “other than the student’s biological sex or gender listed on the student’s birth certificate.” This would apply across the board to students who want to play sports or access bathrooms and locker rooms other than their biological sex. The notification policy also requires school staffers to inform parents if their child wants to go by a chosen name and/or preferred pronouns that match their gender identity ( Townhall). In New Jersey, a judge blocked an attempt from three schools to notify parents of the gender identity of their children ( Daily Wire).
