In this Substack [ [link removed] ] for our 501c3, Spread The Vote + Project ID, I talk about the major ID and vital document losses that we always see after a storm, and that we know we will see in Los Angeles after yesterday’s tropical storm hit 75,000 people living on the streets.
This is exactly why we have been working with City Council to try to establish document storage for the unhoused. Every time it rains, people lose their vital documents. And not just in the rain, they lose them to theft, police sweeps, and the consequences of living without a home. We must provide vital document storage to this country’s unhoused. Access to documents is the only way to escape homelessness but homelessness makes it almost impossible to obtain or hold on to documents. It’s a catch 22 that we must solve, and soon.
Help us establish document storage in two ways:
Call your local city council member and ask them if your city provides document storage to the unhoused. If they do, thank them, if they don’t, tell them to work with Project ID Action Fund and email us at [email protected].
Donate [ [link removed] ] to help us continue our work at every level of government to expand access to IDs and provide a way to protect them.
Adverse weather events are only going to become more frequent and hurricane season in on the way for much of the country. Let’s work together to protect the precious documents of our most vulnerable populations.
Thank you,
Kat
