It's time that we codified the right to contraception in law.
Access to birth control is essential to privacy, health, well-being, career growth, and more. Its legal future shouldn't be up for debate — but conservative leaders continue to threaten to overturn this fundamental right.
In recent years, conservative justices on the Supreme Court have suggested that they would be willing to overturn Griswold v. Connecticut, which established that women have the right to take birth control. And when the House voted to protect the right to contraception in 2022, 195 Republicans voted against it.
This much is clear: extremist Republicans won't stop at banning abortion.
Protecting access to contraception is a critical piece of protecting reproductive rights as a whole. The government has no place in inserting itself into intensely personal decisions about birth control and abortion.
In Congress, I will do everything in my power to protect these basic freedoms.
