Hi, Friend,
Last week, Sen. Robert Peters reached out to tell you about how he defended our communities online and was called out by Tucker Carlson (if you missed it, we've attached it here at the bottom).
In that email, Sen. Peters made an important point:
"This incident, combined with my work to end cash bail in Illinois, makes me a clear target for conservative and cowardly leaders in 2024."
And he's right. Friend – petitions to get on the ballot go out in just a few weeks. We've just begun our long-term budgeting for the next campaign: calculating travel costs, planning for digital outreach and securing essential campaign materials like yard signs and literature.
We want to make sure we're as transparent as possible. Friend, we're not making one-time purchases, which is why we're relying on more than one-time donations to kick our next campaign off on the right foot.
Could you become a Team Peters Monthly Supporter?
Becoming a Digital Monthly Donor is so important. As little as $10 a month can go farther than you might think – will you set up a recurring donation today?

Thank you,

Friend,
A few months ago, an incident downtown left a lot of people in and outside of Chicago talking about public safety and our "out of control" and "rowdy" teenagers.
But it wasn't an honest discussion – folks across the country levied racist remarks against our city and our community.
So I stood up to defend us. And Tucker Carlson didn't like that.

Friend, I received a lot of backlash from the far-right for calling this incident "a mass protest against poverty and segregation", but let's look at the facts –
You cannot close down a young person's school and expect them to be satisfied with the status quo.
You cannot close down a young person's healthcare institution and expect them to be satisfied with the status quo.
You cannot have young people living cooped up in places that are mismanaged and run down and expect them to be satisfied with the status quo.
Of course I don't condone violence – that's a ridiculous misinterpretation. I just want an authentic conversation on what safety looks like in every zip code.
Instead, Tucker Carlson defended his position, defended far-right extremism, and called me out in the process.
And while Tucker will never stop his attacks, I'll never stop standing up for our people in Illinois and working to make their lives better.
I have a strong record in the State Senate, and I'm only more motivated to advocate for our neighborhoods in the years ahead.
But this incident, combined with my work to end cash bail in Illinois, makes me a clear target for conservative and cowardly leaders in 2024. Our team and I need your early support to set my next campaign up for success. Will you donate any amount today?
