Representing Maine’s second district in Congress, I know what it takes to win in rural communities. That’s why I’m proud to be one of the new co-chairs of the Blue Dogs.

I’ve felt compelled by the Blue Dogs in Congress because we take a different approach to politics. We know if Democrats aren’t playing strong with the right message in rural communities, a much darker version of politics can prevail.

We have a lot of work to do to gain the high ground in this conversation, and we have to win all current Blue Dogs seats plus 5 more to take back the Speaker’s gavel.

Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you that I’d much rather be spending time with my 2 year old daughter or getting a new tattoo than playing the political games that suck up the oxygen in D.C. Long before representing Maine in Congress, I was just a normal guy who joined the Marines to serve my country after the September 11 attacks.

But I do this work because I believe it’s important to have real, normal leaders in Washington D.C. Blue Dogs protect America. We're fighting for rural broadband, healthcare, and lower costs. And we own fiscal responsibility: If there’s a good policy, we should pay for it, but the wealthy need to pay their fair share.

Look, we all know that politics is high-stakes. This is about winners and losers - and Blue Dogs know how to win in the toughest districts in the country. But we need your help to win all of our seats and continue growing our coalition.
