Notification of OIG?s One-Year Extension to Its Current Strategic Plan (Memo) [ [link removed] ] 08/21/2023 03:30 PM EDT

The purpose of this memorandum is to notify the U.S. Department of State (State), U.S. Agency for Global Media, and U.S. International Boundary and Water Commission that I, in my capacity as the Acting Inspector General, approved a 1-year extension to the Office of Inspector General?s (OIG) current strategic plan. This decision will extend OIG?s current strategic plan through the end of FY 2024.

OIG?s last strategic plan was for FYs 2019 ? 2021. I previously approved two 1-year extensions, which extended the strategic plan through FY 2023. The strategic plan is the product of a deliberate and inclusive strategic planning process and continues to reflect OIG?s broad oversight priorities, as well as our commitment to improving internal operations and the quality of the oversight we conduct. It also provides sufficient flexibility to consider the updated strategic priorities of the organizations for which we are charged with conducting oversight, including oversight of Ukraine-related U.S. programs and operations. Based, in part, on consultations with my senior leadership team and the durability of the plan, I decided to extend OIG?s FYs 2019 ? 2021 strategic plan an additional year, through the end of FY 2024.

OIG began the process of developing a new multi-year strategic plan in FY 2023. We intend to continue this strategic planning process, with the goal of producing a new strategic plan to be implemented in FY 2025. Given the recent nomination of an Inspector General for State OIG, extending the current strategic plan will also preserve the decision-making authority of a future, presidentially appointed, Senate-confirmed Inspector General.
