Myth: Can't Get Disability if Taking Normal SS Benefits
Someone who becomes disabled when they are already collecting Social Security benefits can file an application for disability benefits if they have not yet reached Full Retirement Age. If approved the SSDI payment will be more than the early retirement benefit even though it will be adjusted for the payments that had already been received. At FRA, the SSDI will automatically convert to SS Retirement benefits at the higher rate.
