John,
Hey it’s Nikki Haley. I wanted to take a minute to share something personal with you – why I’m running for President.
I'm the proud daughter of Indian immigrants who came to America legally over 50 years ago to live in a country that was strong and proud and full of opportunities. My dad was an educator. My mom started a clothing store out of our living room.
|
At the age of 13, I started doing the books at my mom’s store. When my mom moved the store from our living room to a storefront, I’ll never forget the American flag she had painted on a ceiling in her store to remind us about the freedom America has to offer.
|
I graduated from Clemson with an accounting degree. Then, I worked in a corporate job before going back to work at my mom's small business. That’s where I saw firsthand how hard it is to make a dollar and how easy it is for the government to take it away.
I was frustrated, but my parents always told me, “Don’t complain. Do something about it.”
So I did. I ran for the State House. No one thought I had a chance, but I never gave up. I won the district not just once, but two more times before deciding to run for governor.
|
I became governor when I was 38. Michael and I had two young kids. Being governor was one of the most rewarding jobs I’ve ever had. But it wasn’t easy. I had to balance the demands of the job, lead our state through historic floods and horrific tragedies, all while we raised our two young children. On top of the basic demands that come with the titles of governor and mom, I’m a proud military wife. While I was governor, my husband, Michael, was deployed to a combat zone for a year. It was the first time the spouse of a sitting governor was deployed to a combat zone.
|
After I served as governor, I served as U.S. ambassador to the United Nations. I stood up for America on the world stage, fought for our allies, and held accountable those who didn't support us. I proudly took “kick me” sign off America’s back and restored respect for America by the international community.
|
This brings me to my main point: why I’m running for president.
I’ve watched the American Dream unfold before me. I’ve seen that even on our worst days, we are blessed to live in America. But I also know that under Biden’s leadership, times are tough and America can be doing so much better.
I’m running for President because America can do better, and I know how.
|
As governor, I was dubbed a “jobs governor” because I slashed our unemployment rate, brought jobs back to our state, and shepherded in a successful economic recovery.
At the UN I fought for America, made sure our allies knew we had their backs, stood up for Israel even when others refused, and stood up to murderers and dictators to let them know that America was taking names.
I know how to make America strong and proud because I’ve done it before. And I’ll do it as your next President.
As president, I’ll revitalize the economy, support small businesses, stop Washington’s spending sprees, protect our border, champion school choice, and save America’s future.
Will you chip in today and help me save our country?
