Right now, in Hanover County, the racist campaign of banning our stories and narratives rages on as they start the "review process" ([link removed]) in order to remove more books from our libraries. More than 100 books could be on the chopping block, using a tool not professionally recognized by librarians.

While Girls For A Change (GFAC) can't stop the banning of books, we can create a library of our own ([link removed]) so that Black girls have access to discover stories written by people who look like them - and where history is not hidden or erased.

Can you help us lift up Black stories in honor of Black August?

We are asking for donations ([link removed]) to help support the build out of the GFAC library. As you know, we’re currently raising money to “Raise the Roof” ([link removed]) on a brand new building. Your donation will help us reclaim our time and our literature ([link removed]) , starting with some essential reading that conservatives on the far right want to keep from us.

Peer Advisor Kileya Johnson reads a passage from the banned book, "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," and shares why it's important to have books like this in our schools and libraries.
