The Humane League

I believe the old adage is…

When the going gets tough…
The tough get going. 💪

It's time for us to really dial up the pressure against a handful of companies that need to show some accountability and own up to something simple:

Are they keeping the promises they made to spare animals from suffering—or aren’t they?

Here’s the 411. (You heard it here first.)

🍻 If BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse has a plan for how it’ll stop confining hens to horrific cages, it’s keeping it top secret. That’s why, for the past week, we’ve sent a little truck on an epic road trip circling BJ’s headquarters in Southern California… Guess the secret’s out!

Here’s the truck out in the wild. AKA, parked right outside BJ's corporate headquarters.

🌽 Land O’Lakes is responsible for an estimated 850,000 hens per year—but it refuses to let any of us know what progress it’s actually made towards getting these birds out of brutal cages. On the bright side, one Minnesotan Changemaker’s petition is over 30,000 signatures strong... Just in time for a visit to Land O’Lakes’ HQ near the Twin Cities in a few days, with a physical copy of the petition in hand (read: in several large boxes filled with stacks of printed paper, because 30K signatures is a LOT). Oh, and we’re also sending a truck. Starting today.

This truck will broadcast a video. A six-and-a-half-by-thirteen-foot video, calling Land O’Lakes out on its cruelty.

🛒 Woodman’s—a popular grocer in Wisconsin and Illinois—likes to end all its ads with the line, “Better products, better prices, better service because we’re employee-owned.” I personally think it’d be better if it actually did what it said it was going to do—and ended the suffering of tens of thousands of hens. Which is why we’re going to start running ads exposing Woodman’s wrongs and spreading the word far and wide on social media.

Here’s a sneak peak of the ad. The frowny face really gets me.

🐝 Fast-growing restaurant chain Jollibee—which also owns Smashburger and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf—is none too pleased by the huge turnout it’s seen at peaceful protests at its (many) locations this summer. Including at its US headquarters in California. To really put the pressure on its executives this week, we’re launching websites, memes, and ads that link eggs from caged hens to increased risk of salmonella poisoning. (Yuck!) And we’re going to share these far and wide on Jollibee and its brands’ social media pages, as well as on its leaders’ social media accounts!

Protestors—including our take on Jollibee’s very own mascot—gathered in peaceful protest in California.

You can amplify these on-the-ground efforts by taking these four actions:

  1. Demand answers from BJ’s Restaurant & Brewhouse.
  2. Call for change at Land O’Lakes.
  3. Show Woodman’s you won’t back down.
  4. Tell Jollibee enough’s enough.

Let’s make sure these companies know we won’t tolerate their abuse. We won’t tolerate their cruelty. We won’t tolerate their silence while innocent animals suffer.

Time to jump in and make some waves. 🌊

Can I count on you?
