Savings behavior among immigrants and their U.S.-born children: A test of the culture-transplant model ([link removed])
By Jason Richwine
Economic Letters, Volume 231, October 2023

Abstract: The economic impact of immigration involves the movement of more than just labor and capital. Under the culture-transplant model, immigrants carry from their birth countries distinctive values and behaviors that they transmit to their descendants in their new countries. This study tests the model by examining the savings disposition of immigrants and their U.S.-born children. It finds a robust link between individuals’ savings and the national savings rates of their ancestral countries. In a midrange estimate, a 1 percentage-point increase in ancestral-country savings rates is associated with a 1 percent increase in retirement savings among second-generation immigrants. These results suggest that savings behavior has a cultural basis that persists in the generation after migration.

The Border Crisis Undermines Our Democracy ([link removed])
By Jason Richwine
American Conservative, August 16, 2023
Excerpt: Congress sets limits on immigration to avoid the cultural and political transformations that can accompany mass movements of people. By violating those limits—by inviting millions of inadmissible migrants to enter our country—the current administration is furthering a long-term change in our national character.

A Cynical Shell Game: The Biden administration's sudden concern for the Rio Grande’s Mexican fawnsfoot mussel ([link removed])
By Todd Bensman
Daily Mail, August 12, 2023
Excerpt: For years, I've witnessed the ecological devastation wrought by relentless illegal immigration. I'll tell you what's really killing the mussels, its Biden's border policy, yet no environmentalist will ever say that out loud.

Dems hate Texas’ Rio Grande border barrier because it WORKS ([link removed])
By Todd Bensman
New York Post, August 9, 2023
Excerpt: Champions of illegal immigration who don’t like a given new border-control measure will claim they never work. But when the activists really know – deep in their guts – that the idea will actually work too well, they’ll hard-charge political, propaganda and court campaigns to kill it.

Two Parallel and Large Immigration Law Violations Lead to Different Outcomes ([link removed])
By David North
Excerpt: I wish the government would stop using the broad phrase “noncitizens” when they really mean illegal aliens, but cannot bring themselves to use the correct term. The word noncitizen includes both the illegals and many others in perfectly legal statuses such as green card holders and diplomats.
Migrant Deaths, the Media, and the Anti-Border Agenda ([link removed])
By Jon Feere
Excerpt: Whenever an illegal alien tragically dies along the U.S. border or while in detention, anti-border activists try to persuade gullible media outlets to promote their anti-law enforcement agenda. The predictable narrative is that the U.S. government treats foreign nationals poorly and the American people are responsible for any and all deaths, no matter the circumstances. The goal is to discredit immigration enforcement, the rule of law, and the nation’s sovereignty.

New Regulation Will Allow ICE to Serve Bonds Electronically ([link removed])
By Jon Feere
Excerpt: DHS will need to create consequences for those who abuse the bonds system; for many absconders and the people or entities that post bond, losing a cash bond is likely anticipated at the outset.
