A Day of Action in Mapperley Ward

day of action

A Day of Listening, Solving problems, and Empowering Residents

As your dedicated councillors, our mission is to actively engage with the community, understand your concerns, and work collaboratively to find effective solutions. A recent day of action showcased our commitment to making our neighbourhood safer, cleaner, and more vibrant for all.

Community Partnership: Building Strong Ties

The success of our day of action would not have been possible without the immense support of local businesses, volunteers, statutory partners, and community organisations. Your dedication to making Mapperley a better place is truly commendable. We look forward to continuing our collaboration and building stronger bonds in the future.

Litter Picking: Uniting for a Cleaner Mapperley

To preserve the beauty of our surroundings, we organised a litter-picking campaign. It was heartening to witness the community's enthusiasm as residents, volunteers, and local businesses joined forces to clean up our streets and green spaces. We are committed to organising more such events and promoting responsible waste disposal to maintain a cleaner Mapperley.

Ward Walks: Walking Hand-in-Hand with the Community

We have undertaken three ward walks, where we had the pleasure of meeting some of you, engaging in lively discussions, and noting your invaluable feedback. Our team walked through the streets, parks, and local gathering spots, keeping our ears open to your concerns and aspirations. These ward walks form the foundation of our efforts, as they ensure that our actions are firmly rooted in your needs.

Listening and Finding Solutions: Housing, Safety, Youth Work

Housing emerged as a prominent concern during the day, with residents voicing concerns about landlords and housing conditions. We are committed to working closely with the local housing authorities, landlords, and the voluntary sector to explore viable solutions and ensure everyone has access to safe and suitable accommodation. Our licensing officers and fire teams visited Houses of Multiple Occupation to do checks.

Safety is a shared priority, and we recognise the importance of collaborative efforts. Our day of action involved meetings with the Police, Notts Fire & Rescue, and Community Protection to strengthen safety measures and forge better community partnerships. Your input has helped us design strategies that address specific concerns and make our neighbourhood more secure.

Youth work is essential for building a brighter future for Mapperley. We discussed the need for additional youth programmes, recreational facilities, and skill-building initiatives. By investing in our youth, we aim to create a nurturing environment that fosters their growth and development.

Meet your local Councillors!

Councillors Surgery: Open Ears, Open Hearts

The councillors’ surgery sessions are an excellent opportunity for face-to-face interactions with residents. We meet with individuals and groups, who share their stories, concerns, and suggestions. We have delved deep into issues related to housing, safety, and youth work, among others. These personal interactions have given us a clearer understanding of the challenges you face daily and what we can do collectively to address them.

In conclusion, our day of action was just the beginning of an ongoing journey. Together, we can tackle challenges, celebrate successes, and build a Mapperley that thrives on unity, inclusivity, and progress. We are grateful for your trust and promise to work tirelessly in service of our wonderful community.

Surgeries are held at:

St Ann's Valley Joint Service Centre, Livingstone Road NG3 3GG
