Nottingham Refugee Week - Celebrating Unity and Compassion!

Refugee Week

Councillor Anwar Khan had an incredible time attending the Nottingham Refugee Week festival, a vibrant celebration honouring the invaluable contributions of refugees to our beautiful city. The event was an extraordinary fusion of music, theatre, dance, film, art, literature, food, and sport. It truly showcased the rich diversity that makes our community thrive.

It was a privilege to engage with representatives from various organisations, such as the Refugee Forum, Nottingham Arimathea Trust, Communities Inc, Nottinghamshire Victim Care, Emanuel House, and many more. It was truly enlightening to hear about the crucial services they provide across the city and witness first-hand the incredible dedication they have in supporting those in need.

Discussions took place about ways to further support, promote, and collaborate with these remarkable organizations, ensuring that communities receive the assistance they require. It was great to witness the impactful work these organizations do, both for refugees and the homeless, as well as in their tireless efforts against hate crimes.

Remember that humanity should always be a guiding light. Everyone shares this planet, and the slogan for all humans should be "Only Love, Not Hate." By embracing love, sharing, and caring for one another, a brighter future can be forged for all. It's time to spread love far and wide.

Day of Action in St Ann's!

Day of Action

On Tuesday 27 June, the local Day of Action took place with key Partners. Healthy and Wellbeing Stalls were held at the Valley Centre, the team knocked doors with the Fire Authority handing out Keep Safe literature to residents. It was an incredibly successful and productive day for the community.

The team split into three separate groups, covering different parts of St Ann's. Going door-to-door, engaging with residents, providing them with valuable information, and most importantly, listening to their concerns and issues.

The collaboration between the officers and the campaign team was outstanding. There is great commitment to work tirelessly for the betterment of St Ann's. The main priorities as St Ann's ward councillors include ensuring clean streets, timely bin collections, community involvement, education, training, and most importantly, making sure our streets are safe for everyone. We also strive to raise awareness about anti-social behaviour and fight against poverty as our community faces the challenges of a cost-of-living crisis.

The level of community involvement and the unity we witnessed in St Ann's is truly inspiring. Councillor Anwar Khan said "Together, we are stronger, and together, we will create a brighter future for our beloved community. Let's continue working hand in hand to make St Ann's an even better place to live, work, and thrive!"

In Memory of Ian Coates

Councillor Anwar Khan attended the incredibly moving  memorial fundraiser on July 20th alongside our local MP, Nadia Whittome. Everyone gathered to honour the memory of Ian Coates, a deeply cherished school caretaker who died tragically in the recent attacks.

It was touching to witness people from all walks of life coming together for this event. It truly exemplifies the spirit of Nottingham city, a city that stands as a beacon of hope, love, and peace. In times of sorrow, our community unites to support one another, proving that we are stronger together.

Councillor Anwar Khan said "I had the privilege of engaging with teachers, parents, and the local residents. He said "The memorial service reaffirmed my belief in the power of collective efforts to make a difference. Our shared commitment to unity and harmony is what makes our community thrive.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to Huntingdon Academy and the St Ann's community for organizing such a beautiful celebration of Ian's life. Your efforts in bringing everyone together have not gone unnoticed, and it reflects the compassion and resilience that define us as a community.

Let us carry the memory of Ian Coates in our hearts and use it as a reminder of the strength we possess when we stand united. Together, we can overcome any challenge and make a positive impact on our city and its people. Let's continue supporting one another and spreading love, hope, and peace in every corner of Nottingham."
