February 2020 CPL Report

Michigan CPL numbers hit a new record high of 668,579 this past month. The full report can be read HERE. Some state computers servers including those involved in processing concealed pistol license applications have been down for the past week. If you have a CPL due for renewal, note that you will not be able to do it online while the system remains under repair. Either wait or take your renewal application to your country clerk, make payment, and hold on to your receipt.

Heartwell Update

The Michigan Senate is poised to reject the appointment of former Grand Rapids Mayor George Heartwell to the Natural Resources Commission this week. The Michigan Senate Advice and Consent Committee met last week to hear testimony on the Whitmer selection of Heartwell to chair the commission. Much of the hearing focused on Heartwell's willful defiance of Michigan's firearms preemption law as mayor. It also came out during the hearing that Heartwell hasn't hunted in 35 years saying he made a "personal decision" decades ago that "killing things was not for me." The primary purpose of the Natural Resources Commission is to regulate hunting and fishing. MCRGO Board has taken a position in opposition to the appointment and has communicated its position to the Michigan Senate.
