Lauren Underwood For Congress

It’s a well-known fact that women in the U.S. have yet to overcome a long history of unequal pay. Despite the progress made on other fronts to level the playing field, the gender pay gap has persisted, leading to significant disparities in women’s retirement savings and financial security.

That's why Lauren recently introduced the Women's Retirement Protection Act (WRPA), comprehensive legislation to address economic inequalities and help women achieve financial security and independence.

The story of the gender and racial wage gaps spans centuries, from withholding wages from Black women during and after slavery, to creating lasting disparities in health, education, and opportunities for Native women due to land theft.

In 2022, the reported median retirement income for women was 83 percent of that earned by their male counterparts. This alarming gap in retirement savings places women at a heightened risk of poverty, particularly those aged 65 and older. Our mothers, sisters, and daughters deserve better, and it's time we take a stand to rectify this injustice.

Your input and support are invaluable as we work to pass this crucial legislation to ensure women have the means to retire with dignity and financial independence.
