Right now, while families across the state are getting ready to send their kids back to school, teachers are working on setting up their classrooms.
All too often, those teachers have to reach into their own pockets to provide the supplies their students need — even though teachers need a raise themselves.
But Republican legislators have made it clear: They DON’T see public education as a priority. And if we leave it up to the GOP, we’ll see schools defunded in favor of unaccountable private schools and teachers won’t get the salary increases they deserve.
To save North Carolina’s public education system, we have to break the GOP’s one-vote supermajorities in Raleigh and elect leaders who will work FOR public schools and teachers. Please donate whatever you can to help >>>
John, this is a deeply personal issue to me: My mother was one of the best North Carolina public school teachers around. I received an excellent education in North Carolina public schools as did all three of my children.
But our students can’t receive the quality of education they deserve if their schools don’t have sufficient resources and their teachers are burnt out with second or third jobs to make ends meet.
Republican leaders have abandoned any pretense of supporting teachers, students, and public schools in this budget process. Thankfully, there are Democratic candidates all across the state who will prioritize the public education system — and it’s up to us to help elect them.
I’m counting on your help, John! Contribute what you can to help elect leaders who will fight for students, teachers, and public schools.
