NEW FROM NPR:
Schools ended universal free lunch.
Now meal debt is soaring

“When meals were free last year, schools served more than 80 million more meals compared to the year before the pandemic… school districts across the U.S. are reporting signs that families might be struggling to afford school meals.”

Friend,

In 2020, Congress took action to make school lunch free for all public school students – regardless of their family’s economic status.

But at the beginning of the 2022-23 school year, these school lunch waivers expired – and now, NPR reports show that fewer students are getting lunch at school.

Children facing hunger are more likely to repeat a grade in elementary school, have developmental impairments or delays, and have more social and behavioral problems – all of which make them more vulnerable to entering the school-to-prison pipeline.

So we’re gathering signatures to call for free school lunches nationwide – because no child should go hungry. Add your name right now >>
