The Church of England's automatic right to appoint 26 bishops to the House of Lords should be repealed, a report by a group representing more than 100 parliamentarians will recommend this week.

A key figure in the Church of England has said that it should lose the power to hold legally binding weddings as long as it refuses to conduct gay weddings. Couples who married in church would have to undergo a separate civil ceremony in a register office for their marriage to be legally recognised.
