Dear Neighbor,
I'm continuing to learn a great deal from my constituents as the August District Work Period has given me plenty of opportunties to connect. I also have remained engaged on national issues that impact our community. Please continue reading for a brief recap of my work on your behalf last week and a preview of exciting events that will be held later this month.
Making Washington Work For You
Restoring Fiscal Discipline: This article describes how Americans’ credit card debt has passed $1 trillion for the first time in history and the fact that hardship withdrawls from 401ks have surged 36% from last year. This is the painful result of Bidenomics and failed liberal policies that are causing pocketbook pain for hardworking Americans struggling to make ends meet. Instead of tackling these stark realities, the Biden Administration has been on a tour throughout the country to tout the "success" of Bidenomics and push for the implementation of new policies that will limit American consumer choice and cause more cost increases for constituents. It is clear that they are out-of-touch with the harsh realities Americans are experiencing. When I return to DC next month, I will continue to push back against this liberal agenda and advocate for restoring commonsense financial policies that will provide the reief Americans deserve.
Protecting Children: I’ve filed also legislation to help transform the child welfare system. There is irrefutable scientific evidence demonstrating the clear link between abuse in young children and long-term, negative impacts on cognitive, physical, and emotional development. My bill would support state and local efforts to develop and expand community-based Infant-Toddler Court Teams (ITCTs). These teams, led by judges, work collaboratively to prevent child abuse and address the physical and emotional needs of young children who have experienced trauma. Click here to learn more.
Learning from You Here at Home:
Over the last month, I’ve been continuing my Coffee with Your Congressman forums throughout Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties. Pictured below are events held in Brookridge and Ridge Manor in Hernando as well as Lexington Oaks in Pasco County. I provided each group with a brief update on the work I am doing on their behalf in Washington and listened to their concerns about the direction of our country. They also had great ideas for how we can tackle the challenges impacting so many of their neighbors.
Also, my local advisory council’s provide ongoing input that helps to guide my work in Washington. I recently had the chance to stop by my East Pasco Advisory Council to learn more about their needs and views on pending legislation. If you are interested in serving on one of my regional Advisory Councils or on my Veterans Advisory Council, please contact my office at 727-232-2921.
I also recently had the chance to speak with the Community Service Council of West Pasco. These volunteers do such great work throughout our community, and I appreciated the chance to learn more about how I can further their efforts.
Additionally, I met with a local ALS patient and patient advocates about the need to continue supporting federal research into the cause and treatments for this horrific disease. I promised to continue doing all I can to help.
Continuing to Learn from You: Later this month, I will be holding a behavioral health forum in Hernando County to gain additional insight into this important issue.
I will also be hosting a Veteran Town Hall in Hernando on the same day. I'll be joined by the Director of James A. Haley Hospital. Together, we look forward to learning from our local Veterans and their families about how we can improve services for our nation's heroes.
Community Connection
I am fortunate to have a team of dedicated staff who regularly attend events throughout our community, especially when I am required to be in Washington, DC. Through their collective efforts, I am better able to stay connected to the issues that matter most to my constituents. As part of my commitment to developing a better understanding of the issues facing constituents in Citrus, Hernando and Pasco counties members of my team attended several events last week. Here are a few highlights.
My team was proud to attend the recent Change in Command Ceremony as Pasco Fire Chief Scott Cassin retired and handed command to newly appointed Chief, Anthony “Tony” Perez. Congratulations to both of these public servants and thank you for your commitment to keeping our community safe!
My team enjoyed speaking to the Pasco Aging Network recently to provide an update on the work I am doing in Washington to support seniors. I will always keep fighting to make sure our seniors are protected!
Additionally, my team heard from Brooksville Mayor Blake Bell at the August Brookville Matters Meeting at the Bistro. It is wonderful to know there are so many exciting plans in place to help strengthen our community.
Constituent Corner
My office recently received this letter after my team helped her with her passport.
It is my total pleasure to inform you that thanks to the quick and effective management of your office, I was able to receive my passport via general mail. I deeply appreciate the support services of those who made it possible for me to get my passport renewed.
We value the quality and effectiveness of your work as case manager, as well as the excellent professionals who were assigned to me for the evaluation and updating of my case with the pertinent government offices.
This is just one example of the work we do each day. Constituent services are a critical element of our congressional office. The federal government is a massive operation, and my office is available if you ever need assistance in navigating the bureaucracy or cutting through red tape. We are here to serve you!
