School Green Teams are starting!

School Green Teams compete for an award at the end of the academic year.

School Green Teams registration for the 2023-24 academic year is open for all students across Fort Worth who are excited to make a positive, environmental difference.

School Green Teams work to complete activities in the areas of litter, beautification, waste, recycling, environment, and sustainability. These tasks are flexible and can be worked into classroom time or an after-school program. Each activity a team completes earns points toward the School Green Team of the Year Award competition. Winners receive "green packs" for students, a tree planting at their school,?and recognition in KFWB's newsletter and social media channels!

Last year, School Green Teams students completed several exciting activities, including a Recycled Arts Showcase, and an experiment where they dropped an egg from a high spot - in this case, the claw of a litter abatement truck - and tried to keep the egg intact by wrapping it in recycled materials.

Your team can be part of that learning fun too! There is no cost to participate, and any school team is welcome - public,?private, or?homeschooled. Learn more about the program or register here! [ [link removed] ]

Many gallons of water go into into the manufacturing and use of some every-day items necessary for school.
Be water-wise and get an A+ this fall!

Fort Worth residents may be surprised to learn just how much water goes into the manufacturing and use of some everyday essentials for school:

1) T-Shirt: The cotton used to produce one basic t-shirt can consume over 700 gallons of water.

2) Blue jeans: Fashionable and tough, but more wasteful than you know. A pair of blue jeans can consume just under 2,000 gallons of water to produce [ [link removed] ]. Consider durable brands that can be re-worn without stuffing your closet full of new pairs of blue jeans each season.

3) A cup of coffee: Over 35 gallons of water are used to produce [ [link removed] ], harvest, and roast the beans needed to create enough grounds for just one cup of coffee.

4) Handheld Smart devices: A study estimates that smartphones actually take over 3,000 gallons of water to produce [ [link removed] ]. Who would have thought that something so sensitive to water could consume so much to make?

Save water! Buy durable brands, reuse, and reduce consumption.
