Dear John,

Heart of the Shires Shopping Centre is hosting a free mobile petting zoo on 30th of August 2023, in which the public are invited to manhandle and harass animals for entertainment.

Both exotic and domestic animals are going to be subjected to a three-hour ordeal involving crowds, noise, and relentless forced interactions.

We have emailed them, and submitted our concerns via their online contact form - as well as chasing them up for a response - but still they have failed to commit to doing the right thing by cancelling this event.

Now we need your help to get their attention and stop this abuse.
TAKE ACTION FOR ANIMALS TODAY! ([link removed])

Shopping centres are not appropriate environments for animals, who prefer to have freedom to move around, are frequently stressed and upset by crowds and loud noises, and would rather have the choice over whether or not to interact with those around them. Nonetheless, Heart of the Shires has a history of hosting mobile zoos and are planning to do so again this year. Enough is enough.

Mobile zoos inflict stress and suffering on the animals exploited by them. The promotion for the event promises that “Everyone who wishes to will get the chance to hold the animals” with no thought as to the effect this sustained and non-consensual interaction will have on the innocent victims - the animals.

We are calling for Heart of the Shires Shopping Centre to cancel the planned ‘Meet the Animals’ event, and change their policy to ensure no animals are hired for entertainment at the site in future.
