Team, I wanted to reach out to reflect on an important anniversary we just passed: Yesterday marked 103 years since the 19th Amendment was ratified, and women were granted the right to vote.
While the 19th Amendment was an incredibly important victory for voting rights, it was not the end of the fight. Black women wouldn’t be granted the right to vote until almost 40 years later with the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
And even today, the fight for our democracy continues. Earlier this month, Ohioans banded together to defeat Issue 1, a radical ballot measure that would’ve taken power from our communities and given it to Big Money special interests.
Thankfully, grassroots organizers mobilized our communities, and democracy won in Ohio.
And it’s that same grassroots energy that is going to restore our reproductive rights this November, and ensure Democrats take back the House Majority next year.
Yours in the fight,
Greg
