Donald Trump has been indicted again, John — this time, right here at home in Georgia.

If the charges against Trump prove to be true, he attempted to cheat Georgia voters out of our democratic rights, trying to undo an election with a backroom phone call, assembling fake electors to carry out his will instead of the will of the voters, and breaking into voting machines in south Georgia.

But we can hold our heads high, John, because we’re not like him. As unfairly as Trump seems to have treated Georgia, Georgia will make sure that Trump is treated fairly, with a presumption of innocence and due process of the law.

And unlike our federal courts — which have outdated rules that prohibit cameras in courtrooms — Georgia will make sure that every single American can see the evidence brought against the former president.

The very system of laws that Donald Trump flouted over and over again while in office is the only thing he has to hold onto now. I hope he finally understands the importance of our justice system.

Whether or not Trump is found guilty of leading a criminal enterprise to overturn the election results, it’s indisputable that he came at Georgia hard in 2020. Whoever wins the GOP primary in 2024, they’ll come at Georgia hard in 2024 again. And DeKalb County is their top target.

We have to be ready and do everything we can to get out the vote in our crucial district, so we can prevent Trump or DeSantis or any other MAGA Republican from winning our state.
