With so many climate calamities upon us this summer, I hope that this email finds you well and full of determination to tackle the urgent environmental issues we face. As the deputy leader of the Green Party, I am reaching out to you today to shed light on a concerning development by the NDP-backed Liberal government.
In a move that aims to deceive Canadians and appease their Big Oil friends, the Liberal government announced its "Clean Electricity Regulations". Shockingly, these regulations designate the production of electricity from fossil fuels such as gas and diesel as "clean electricity" if they meet certain criteria. It is clear that this is a dire attempt to greenwash and prolong the carbon-based economy that is suffocating our communities and endangering our planet.
At the Green Party, we firmly believe that a 100% renewable electricity grid is not only possible but also vital for the well-being of our planet. Wind and solar power have become the most affordable forms of electricity generation, and Canada has a strong foundation in hydroelectric generation. We must embrace these clean energy sources.
Friend, we cannot stand idly by as the government tries to manipulate the definition of clean energy. We must act now to hold them accountable for their actions. That is why I'm reaching out to you today, seeking your support in our fight to stop the Liberal's greenwashing of gas and oil.
