John, I wanted to make sure you saw this email I sent earlier this week. — Robert Reich
Dear John,
On Monday, a Georgia grand jury indicted Donald Trump and 18 others in connection with their fraudulent attempt to steal the 2020 presidential election — Trump's fourth indictment since the start of the year.
But with each indictment, Trump has only risen in the polls for the Republican primary. And given extreme partisan polarization and the Republican bias in the Electoral College, we must face the reality that this serial criminal has a very real chance of becoming the next president.
Friends, our democracy simply will not survive another Donald Trump term.
The good news is that the U.S. Constitution has a solution to prevent a dangerously anti-democratic demagogue like Trump from regaining power. The 14th Amendment explicitly prohibits elected officials who’ve engaged in insurrection from running for president or serving in any other public office — and state officials have the power and duty to apply the law and deny Trump access to the ballot.
We’re launching a major effort to educate the public and urge state election officials to enforce the 14th Amendment and disqualify Donald Trump from the ballot.

Though state officials already have everything they need to disqualify Trump from the ballot, the latest indictments are shining a light on how wide-ranging Trump’s effort to overturn the election really was.
The latest Trump indictment details damning evidence of his guilt. The charges include violating the state’s racketeering act, soliciting a public officer to violate their oath, conspiring to impersonate a public officer, conspiring to commit forgery in the first degree, and conspiring to file false documents.
The indictment also charges some of Trump’s most prominent advisers, including Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows, who served as White House chief of staff at the time of the election.
This indictment follows a 2½-year investigation by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis — after audio leaked from a January 2021 phone call, during which Trump urged Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger to question the validity of thousands of ballots, especially in the heavily Democratic Atlanta area, and said he wanted to “find” the votes to erase his 2020 loss in the state.
Trump now faces a grand total of 91 felony counts, and the evidence uncovered by the January 6 committee clearly shows that Trump is disqualified from running for president under the 14th Amendment’s insurrection clause. To defend the Constitution and our democracy, state election officials must act now to bar him from running.
However, the corporate media continues to act like the 14th Amendment is some fringe left-wing idea, not the law of the land. As a result, most Americans have no idea that Trump is disqualified. It’s up to us to make sure the American people know the truth, and with filing deadlines for 2024 presidential candidates approaching in the next six months, we must act now.
Will you make a donation to educate the public and call on election officials to apply the 14th Amendment and keep Donald Trump off the 2024 presidential ballot?
Thanks for joining with us in the fight for democracy,
