Dear Jack,

Week 7 of the 2020 legislative session is a wrap! Only two weeks left to go before the session ends.

We were honored to welcome our friend, former Senate colleague, and Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton to the gallery this week! Even though she's moved on to the House of Representatives now, I'm proud to represent Loudoun and Prince William counties with her.

Legislation Updates

The Budget: This was a big week in the General Assembly -- both the House of Delegates and the Senate passed their biennial budget bills! There are still differences between the two budgets that will need to be reconciled over the coming weeks, but I'm proud of the work we've done this year. Some highlights of the Senate budget:

$150 million for well-deserved teacher raises and bonuses,

$55 million for school construction and renovation,

$39 million to lower the counselor to student ratio in our schools,

$55 million to fully fund the Virginia State Police compensation and retention program,

$680 million in transportation funding, which includes highway construction and improvement, transit and passenger rail, and DMV staffing and compensation, and

$644 million for fully funding the Medicaid forecast, which includes adult dental coverage!

This budget passed the Senate with bipartisan support, and it makes historic investments in our Commonwealth's future. I'm proud to have passed this budget along with my Senate colleagues.

District News

Metro officials are now saying that the Metro Silver Line Extension opening will likely be delayed to spring or summer of 2021 due to concerns with the automatic train control software. I'll continue to stay up to date on this issue and provide updates whenever I can.
