Happy World Honeybee Day! While many of us may have grown up afraid of being stung, we now recognize that honeybees are an especially vital part of our global ecosystem, and deserve our recognition!
90% of wild plants and 75% of leading global crops depend on animal pollination, and one of the biggest pollinators are bees, floating from plant to plant with pollen on their body, depositing it as they go. One out of every three mouthfuls of our food depends on pollinators like bees.
However, because of our climate crisis, honeybees are on their way to endangerment due to declining biodiversity in all corners of the globe. More than just producing honey, bees are critically important to our food supply, and we can all take some small steps to give them some help, such as:
Growing a garden, no matter the size, with plants that are native to your area!
Leaving out some water (even bees need hydration)!
Tell your friends and family about the importance of pollinators like bees!
Our SEEC Members have been “busy bees” in Congress fighting for conservation, the climate, and a cleaner economy, and they need our help to keep up the good work! We need to “bee” smarter in caring for our environment, and your support will help SEEC Members do just that.
