Summer is winding down, and that means students like me are enjoying the final days of vacation, squeezing in one last trip, and preparing for the school year ahead. But what was once my favorite time of year has turned into a nightmare for countless students and teachers across America.

Our classrooms have turned into places of fear and violence instead of places of learning. We’re more focused on surviving than thriving in our studies. And still, too many of our elected leaders are focused on the wrong solutions. A North Carolina school district responded to gun violence by putting AR-15s in their school. Some Texas educators can already carry concealed firearms in classrooms. And bulletproof backpacks are the newest item on some back-to-school shopping lists this year.

John, these “solutions” are a slap in the face to students like me. Guns are already the leading cause of death for children in America. More guns will not protect us. From Uvalde to Parkland, it seems like every year we’re rocked by another school shooting. And while NRA-backed politicians are quick to offer “thoughts and prayers,” they actively block meaningful action to address this growing crisis.

If you’ve had ENOUGH of children being gunned down in schools, if you fear for your child’s safety, or if you see the fear in their eyes, I ask that you join me in taking action right now. Brady and Team ENOUGH are demanding that our elected officials protect us from senseless gun violence. Are you with me? VICTORY: Delaware Signs TWO Gun Violence Prevention Bills Into Law

We’ve been hard at work in Delaware! Yesterday, following months of advocacy, Brady activists joined Gov. John Carney for the signing of TWO life-saving gun violence prevention bills, including:

✅ HB 202, which bans firearms from polling places.

✅ HB 201, which bans firearms from schools and recreational zones.

These laws couldn’t be more timely. In recent years, we’ve seen a dramatic increase in armed intimidation at the ballot box, threatening not only public safety but also our democracy. We’ve also seen an increase in school shootings and gun violence impacting children nationwide. But these new laws will prevent armed intimidation and protect public safety.

This major victory builds on Brady’s recent wins in Delaware, including a ban on assault weapons, age restrictions to purchase a firearm, expanded Brady Background Checks, and more. Brady thanks Delaware lawmakers, Gov. Carney, and our coalition partners for their leadership and support in making these bills law. Daniel “Bud” Williams was only 16 years old when he was shot outside his home in Buffalo, NY. The handgun used to severely wound the high school basketball star was then traced to a gun trafficker who had purchased over 250 guns at a Dayton, OH, gun show in a mere 6 months. Almost 100 of those weapons had been purchased from a single dealer via straw purchases in cash. In the aftermath of the shooting, Bud, and his family, along with Brady Legal, brought a lawsuit against the gun companies that had allowed these illegal sales to take place.
