Dear Friends,
In July, we saw more than 180,000 jobs created in the United States. Here in New Hampshire, we now boast the lowest unemployment rate in the country at just 1.7%. Despite headwinds caused by Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine and disruptions of supply chains caused by COVID-19, our economy has continued to prove incredibly resilient. But despite our economic strength, we know that far too many families have continued to struggle day to day. This time last year, inflation was at one of the highest rates in decades, squeezing families at the grocery store and the gas pump. Energy prices skyrocketed when Russia began its assault on Ukraine and threatened international supply chains. Small businesses couldn’t find the employees they needed. In the face of those challenges, I was proud to take action to lower costs, strengthen our workforce, and get our economy back on track. While we have made important progress, more work remains, and I am committed to standing up for hardworking Granite State families.

My Economic Opportunity Agenda lays out a plan to lower costs, invest in clean energy, and build the middle class.
We are starting to see real results. Inflation continues to moderate and the economy is on the mend, continuing to grow at a healthy pace and exceeding projections. While this progress is encouraging, we must ensure every New Hampshire family feels these benefits. That’s what I’m fighting for in Congress and why I developed an Economic Opportunity Agenda, a legislative roadmap to seize this moment and build on our economic progress.

Community health centers like Mid-State Health Center in Plymouth play an important role in supporting New Hampshire’s workforce.
New Hampshire has the lowest unemployment rate in the country, and employers need help finding workers. We must invest in the next generation of workers to fuel our economy and ensure New Hampshire businesses of all sizes have the staff they need to compete in the 21st-century economy.
I visited Mid-State Health Center and Harbor Care Wellness Center last week to discuss the critical role community health centers play in supporting New Hampshire’s workforce. From expanding access to quality, affordable child care to providing our neighbors with the substance use disorder treatment they need, health centers are a key partner in ensuring Granite Staters have the support and resources to participate in the workforce and find meaningful, good-paying jobs.
I toured Nashua Community College’s Microelectronics Bootcamp in February 2022 and met with students learning the skills they need to succeed in growing in-demand fields.
My Agenda also includes legislation inspired by a program at Nashua Community College to connect employers with qualified applicants through apprenticeships, unions, and community colleges across the country. By bridging the gap between employers and graduating students, we can get more people into their dream jobs faster and help businesses succeed.
We’ve made progress in lowering inflation, but more work remains.
Inflation continues to cool and moderate, thanks to laws like the Inflation Reduction Act, which has provided much-needed relief to hardworking Granite State families. This transformative legislation has helped transition us toward a clean energy economy and increase domestic energy production, providing workers with in-demand, good-paying jobs.
We are already seeing the impact of this legislation in New Hampshire – energy jobs grew 2.2% last year, while clean energy jobs grew by 2.4%, and this growth is expected to continue in the coming years. By investing in the abundant natural resources New Hampshire has to offer, we can grow our energy workforce and lower costs at home.
Affordable housing projects like Monahan Manor are essential to addressing our state’s housing crisis and prove that this can be done.
Last week, I toured Nashua’s Monahan Manor Apartments to see firsthand how the city is working to improve access to affordable housing. New Hampshire’s vacancy rate is less than 1% – a healthy rate is 5%. It’s critical we build more affordable housing to grow our economy and bring new families to our state.
Everyone deserves a safe place to live and call home, and the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness is an essential partner in making that a reality.
I also met with the Concord Coalition to End Homelessness last week to discuss their work to support our unhoused residents and give them the hand-up they need to find safe, stable housing, reenter the workforce, and thrive.
I’ll keep working to grow New Hampshire’s housing stock, invest in workforce housing, and expand the low-income housing tax credit to support families in need. I’m committed to ensuring that everyone in New Hampshire has a roof over their head.

New Hampshire can be a leader in American manufacturing.
We need to invest in domestic manufacturing so business owners can have confidence they will have the resources to run their operations and workers have access to in-demand jobs. That’s why my Agenda includes a plan to streamline supply chains and invest in American manufacturing.
Onsemi in Hudson is a great example – this high-tech manufacturing firm was bolstered by the CHIPS and Science Act and is bringing hundreds of good-paying jobs to our state.
Together, we can build on the economic progress we made and ensure every family has a safe, affordable place to call home, workers are paid a fair wage, and everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
