We are beginning to enter the exciting Fall season; our kids are going back to school, football is creeping up, and Congress will be returning to D.C.
I want to reflect with you on some of the things we can take away from the summer season. Obviously, the biggest story is for the first time in America's history, a former President has been charged with both state and federal crimes. This is not something we take lightly or something we celebrate. The justice system in America is acting as it was designed.
But Trump is not the only news of the summer, folks. The climate crisis is unfolding in front of our very eyes, and billions of people globally are dealing with the ramifications of the corporate abuse dealt to our planet. In parts of Iran, the heat index reached over 150 degrees Fahrenheit (yes, I did have the staff fact-check that number because I did not believe it at first.) These temperatures are dangerous, and as we send our children back to school, we must consider what kind of planet we are leaving for future generations. I struggle with that question because it sometimes feels like we are just in an endless cycle. No matter the arguments, the proof, and the historic weather-related tragedies that unfold, Republicans in Congress do not seem to be swayed.
I need to emphasize one thing: Republicans in Congress are unfazed, but that does not mean Republican voters feel the same way, specifically those Republicans in TX, FL, AZ, and across the South. These folks are living through life-changing and life-disrupting weather conditions. So when their Republican representatives tell them climate change is a hoax, they live a different reality. That reality presents an opportunity for us to reach these folks and get them on our side. That is one of the goals for No Dem Left Behind this cycle. We plan on refocusing on the climate crisis and targeting Republican strongholds that have been impacted.
I make sure to tell our staff that if we remember that the truth is on our side, our job becomes a little easier. All we have to do is convey what is happening and our strategy to fix it. The Biden administration is making historic moves to combat climate change, invest in green energy, and create green jobs. The Democrats in the House and Senate are united behind the progress we are making. We have the people and the plans to make an impact, all we need is the voters along with us.
