We hope you have had a great week! Around the district, Congressman Kim spoke with neighbors, community leaders, and local groups. It was another great week full of informative conversations that are essential to our service to you! From neighbors at Monday’s town hall to local farm owners showing us their work, and legislative meetings with local nonprofits, we appreciate everyone who takes the time to speak with the Congressman and us.

1 Year of the Inflation Reduction Act!

This Wednesday, we helped celebrate one-year since the Inflation Reduction Act was signed into law. Congressman Kim helped pass this historic legislation to deliver real savings to our local New Jersey communities. This week, we highlighted one of these neighbors, Marta, who is saving hundreds on insulin thanks to this bill and was Congressman Kim’s guest to the State of the Union this year.

Congressman Kim was also proud to help pass this generational bill into law last year to deliver historic funding for clean energy, pollution clean-up, and more to establish the U.S. as a global leader in the fight against climate change. So far, there are $3 million in eligible planning grants to support efforts to reduce climate pollution in New Jersey and $1.07 billion for clean energy projects and clean energy jobs across the state.

The Congressman fought to include major healthcare savings within the legislation. To lower costs and support our local seniors, the law’s $35 per month cap on insulin prices is saving around 4,000 people in our district an average of $490 per year. It is also saving Affordable Care Act marketplace enrollees in our district an average of $1,340 on their health insurance. Also in the bill is a provision, co-wrote by Congressman Kim that will cap out-of-pocket costs for seniors on Medicare to $2,000 per year.

Lastly, we highlighted ways community members can save money on their taxes thanks to the law’s tax credits and rebates. Check out our webpage here to learn about the law’s investment in U.S. energy production and its tax credits for millions in New Jersey.

Congressman Kim Hosts 66th Town Hall in Manalapan

Thank you to everyone who joined Congressman Kim Monday night for his August town hall. We were grateful to see such a packed room of community members there to hear updates about the Congressman’s work and to ask questions about issues they care about.

From his most recent and upcoming work on major legislation like the National Defense Authorization Act and 2023 Farm Bill to answering questions about prescription drug costs and infrastructure, comprehensive discussion’s like this one are vital to supporting his service to you. We look forward to such engaging conversation at our next town hall too!

Make Room for Some Gourmet Mushrooms

At the start of a packed week around the district, Congressman Kim went to Millstone to visit the Two River Gourmet Mushroom farm. He continues his work in Congress to support local farm’s unique needs. The farm owner Kevin spoke with the Congressman about different grants and legislation that can help farmers like his grow their local businesses.

Visiting Veterans at Hamilton VFW

From expanded access to healthcare to connecting vets to career support, Congressman Kim is proud to work alongside the New Jersey Veterans of Foreign Wars to meet veterans’ unique needs. This Wednesday, he visited with the Hamilton VFW to talk through what’s next in this vital work to uplift and support our local veteran community.

Congressman Kim Joins South Jersey Chamber to Celebrate and Support Small Businesses

Congressman Kim spoke with the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey this week about their shared work to support New Jersey small businesses. The backbone of our local economy and the heart of our communities, Congressman Kim is proud to work with local leaders and stand up for their needs in Congress.

Weather Watching with the Local Experts

Congressman Kim toured the Weather Station in Mount Holly yesterday to talk about storm preparedness and strategies to protect our communities from extreme weather. He saw first hand their latest tools that community members can use to get the latest updates and information. The meteorologists highlighted online resources that are most helpful and the weather radio system as well as the work of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration who are staffed 24/7 to have the latest on weather warnings.

This was an informative visit ahead of Congressman Kim’s Heat and Hurricanes Webinar earlier today. Stay tuned for a recording of this webinar in case you couldn’t join us live.

A Group Effort at the Joint Base

Later on Thursday, Congressman Kim visited JBMDL to speak with youth and Red Cross volunteers making a delivery to the Base’s food pantry. Students in the “Grow-A-Row” program harvest fruits and vegetables on a farm in Pittstown and deliver these to the Base. It is an impressive and heartwarming program supporting local military families.

Speaking with Local Community Groups about Local Needs

Throughout the week, Congressman Kim had the pleasure of meeting with a variety of local nonprofits, groups, and businesses to discuss their unique missions and needs.

Among these, the Congressman spoke with the Emergency Housing Assistance Program about combating housing insecurity in our local community, including his recent work securing funds to help build a homeless shelter in Burlington County. He also spoke with the No Stigma Network about his efforts and their mission to expand programs and access to care, break down stigmas, and look out for one another. Congressman Kim also met with Augustine Consulting Inc, a woman-owned defense contractor that is headquartered in Hamilton Township.

These conversations inform our work on behalf of people in our community and are welcomed ways to attach our work in Congress to local efforts.

Congressman Kim’s Statement on the Trilateral Summit with South Korea and Japan

Today, Congressman Kim released the following statement:

“The summit today between the U.S., South Korea, and Japan is historic. This gathering at Camp David symbolizes a new era of engagement, cooperation, and stability in the Indo-Pacific. When I traveled to South Korea and Japan last year, I spoke with leaders from both countries and heard how they wanted to continue their strong relationship with America.

“I commend both President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida for agreeing to this summit, and I commend President Biden for pulling this summit together to build a strong, lasting, and secure future.”

Flashback (to) Last Friday

At the end of last week, Congressman Kim was honored to attend Major General Kris Belanger’s Change of Command Ceremony at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst and congratulate them on their new role. He is proud to work alongside the leaders and servicemembers at JBMDL to address their needs and the needs of our nation.

Last Friday, the Congressman also visited the Medford Arts Center during their arts class for veterans. He learned all about this local community program that shows our gratitude for their service by supporting veterans’ well-being in a creative way!
