Friend, I held three in-person town halls this week to hear from Iowans and answer their unscreened, unfiltered questions. I heard a lot about the importance of reining in out-of-control spending, ramping up domestic energy production, and holding the federal government accountable. Iowans want — and deserve —commonsense policies from their elected officials, and I'll continue fighting to make D.C. run more like the great state of Iowa! I will be holding two more in-person town hall meetings next week to hear from you. I will be in Tama County on Tuesday, August 22nd, and Buchanan County on Wednesday, August 23rd. I hope to see you there! North Iowans know “Bidenomics” isn’t working and want to rein in out-of-control spending. I'll continue working to ensure your taxpayer dollars are spent responsibly! Grain Millers, Inc. I love the Grain Millers motto: make good things for and with good people. I enjoyed touring their St. Ansgar facility this week and learning about their work to bring high quality products from the field to the table! Howard County Town Hall Meeting We had a wide ranging conversation at my town hall in Cresco! We covered border security and stopping human trafficking, President Biden’s attempt to “cancel” student debt, inflation, and the importance of ramping up domestic energy production. Thanks to everyone who joined us and shared their perspective. Iowa Healthcare Association I had an informative discussion with the Iowa Healthcare Association at Wellington Place in Decorah. We talked about the importance of ensuring all Iowans receive quality health care and are treated with dignity. Allamakee County Town Hall Meeting I held my third in-person town hall meeting of the week in Waukon. We covered my work to cut wasteful spending, the importance of Congressional oversight to hold government accountable, and investing in Iowa. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation. Visit to Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital I visited with Gundersen Health at Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union and learned more about their maternal care services. I’m passionate about ensuring women have access to quality pre and postnatal care, and I am grateful this dedicated team is providing care for moms and babies in rural Iowa. MercyOne Elkader I enjoyed touring MercyOne Medical Center in Elkader to learn more about their team’s passion for providing quality health care to rural Iowans. Iowa State Fair It was great to be back at the Iowa State Fair this week! The fair is an incredible opportunity to celebrate Iowa and showcase all our state has to offer. From livestock shows to eating everything you could dream of on a stick, and families making memories here together, the Iowa State Fair is the place to be. Nothing compares! ICYMI: China doesn't just want our Silicon Valley secrets. China is coming for our seeds, too. We are being robbed by the Chinese Communist Party every single day – whether it’s our seeds, cutting edge technology, or other invaluable trade secrets. We can’t let China’s aggressive IP theft continue to go unchecked. I wrote an op-ed with Chairman Mike Gallagher (WI-08) on the CCP's underhanded tactics and how we can protect American innovation. Read key excerpts below, or read the full piece here. "Why is the Chinese Communist Party after our seeds and agricultural technology? One answer is that Beijing is simply after all of our intellectual property. The FBI has estimated that China steals between $225-600 billion of American intellectual property and trade secrets every year. That is around $4,000 stolen per American family of four. The second answer is that China is food insecure. The PRC is the largest importer of corn, soybeans, wheat, rice, and dairy products in the world. Some observers connect Xi Jinping’s newfound obsession with food security with his increasing aggression towards Taiwan, speculating that if the CCP precipitates conflict in the Strait, global seaborne trade will be disrupted and therefore securing grain supplies will be essential. In true "Field of Dreams" fashion, we built agricultural technology and prowess here in America, and the CCP has come to steal it."
