Howdy Texan –

I'm about to head out for my next meeting, but I wanted to take a quick moment to update you on my work for Texas' 31st district.

ON THE DOCKET:

  • Introducing the School Security Enhancement Act
  • Visting Bosque County Law Enforcement Center
  • Supporting Local Law Enforcement

THE BRIEF:

  • Americans are spending $709 more per month on everyday goods and services than they did two years ago, according to Moody's Analytics.
  • More than 130,000 migrants were apprehended at the U.S.-Mexico border in July, according to a U.S. government official, a third more than in June.
  • Parents plan on spending an average of $969 on back-to-school items this year, with school supply costs up 18% from last year.

INTRODUCING THE SCHOOL SECURIITY ENHANCEMENT ACT

As students return to school, I have reintroduced the School Security Enhancement Act with fellow Texan, Congressman Nathaniel Moran (TX-01). As a grandfather to seven, I want our students to be safe at school. This bill allows school districts to use federal grants for school security enhancements like police officers, emergency alert systems, and structural enhancements. It also empowers local school districts to make security enhancements that work for their campuses, students, and teachers instead of a one-size-fits-all approach.

I WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU!

Do you believe the Defund the Police movement damaged community safety?
Yes
No

VISITING BOSQUE COUNTY LAW ENFORCEMENT CENTER

I visited the Bosque County Law Enforcement Center and Sheriff Trace Hendricks to see how I can best support the community’s police officers from the federal level. We discussed training opportunities and technology upgrades that will help keep officers safer on the streets. As a former judge, I’ve worked closely with police officers for decades, and I understand how dangerous but essential the job is. I look forward to a constructive partnership with Sheriff Hendricks.

SUPPORTING LOCAL LAW ENFORCEMENT

Law and order is the foundation of our society. While Democrats call for defunding law enforcement, I believe we must support our local police. I secured $127,500 for the Liberty Hill Police Department for equipment modernization for the force. Ensuring our officers have the resources they need to protect our community has always been one of my top priorities, and I’ll continue to back the men and women in blue.

As always, thank you for taking the time to stay updated on what's happening in Texas' 31st congressional district. Follow my Facebook and Twitter accounts for more updates.

Representing you and Texas in the United States House is an honor and privilege.

Sincerely,

John R. Carter
