Drilling is dangerous and pollutes our land, water, and climate. With a growing consensus that we must drastically increase renewable energy production, it’s time for President Biden to step up and stop drilling away our public lands.
But instead of scaling back or stopping drilling on public lands, the Biden Administration recently proposed increasing the cost while doing nothing to address the climate crisis.
Biden has promised no drilling on federal lands during his presidential campaign. He has not honored that promise. This proposal is the most recent example.

I urge President Biden to halt drilling and fracking on ALL public lands and waters. It is the height of irresponsibility to expand fracking and drilling on public lands at a time when the climate crisis demands that we move off fossil fuels to clean, renewable energy.
Proponents of the proposed rule will highlight that the rule will reduce drilling conflicts with important wildlife habitats and cultural sites and update outdated fiscal terms. But the proposal is the same old approach that doesn’t address the heart of the issue – the burning and extraction of fossil fuels.
Food & Water Action helped introduce the first bill to ban fracking on federal lands. And as we bring more and more people together to demand real action against fracking, we can protect our public lands from fossil fuel extraction.
On September 17th, we are joining activists, frontline leaders, and others in the March to End Fossil Fuels to demand President Biden immediately address climate change and end the era of fossil fuels.
Together, we can and must push for the climate future we all deserve – a future free from reckless and dangerous drilling.
Onward together,
Mitch Jones
Deputy Director

P.S. Keep up with President Biden’s climate “promises” by visiting our sibling organization Food & Water Watch's Biden Climate Watch page.
Food & Water Action and its affiliated organization, Food & Water Watch, are advocacy groups with a common mission to protect our food, water and climate.
