John, it’s Mike Quigley — SEEC Co-Chair and House Representative for Illinois’ 5th District.

This summer, I led my eighth annual Climate Change in our National Parks tour in partnership with SEEC, this time in Denali, Alaska. I was honored to be joined by fellow SEEC Members Reps. Katie Porter (CA), Sean Casten (IL), Kim Schrier (WA), and Ted Lieu (CA). Our visit to the last frontier back in July laid bare the alarming trends plaguing our most at-risk ecosystems.

Spanning from mountainous terrain to river basins and glacial plains, Denali presents a unique case study on the ranging impacts of climate change.

In recent years, the park has experienced record warming temperatures and thaw, struggling populations of salmon and migratory wildlife, mass glacial shrinkage, and catastrophic landslides — one of which wiped out a critical section of Denali’s 92-mile road, cutting off road access to a full half of the park for multiple years.

SEEC was integral in passing the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law of 2021, which has been a key source of funding as Alaskans work to restore this road. This trip was a wake-up call of all the new and unexpected ways climate change will be impacting our parks.

As our Members continue touring the country, we’re actively strategizing ways we can give these parks the support they need to continue fighting on the frontlines against climate change, but we need a grassroots megaphone to bring this issue center-stage in Congress. Make an investment in our planet’s future by chipping in $5, $10, or whatever you can by donating to SEEC PAC today.

Especially after this summer’s record-setting heat waves, I think everyone can agree that the effects of climate change don’t care about party lines. These extreme weather events impact each and every one of us, and there’s no better evidence of this than in our nation’s national parks.

If you’re ready to break through the partisan noise surrounding climate change in Congress so we can pass effective, preventative measures to protect our planet, make a contribution of any amount to support SEEC’s work.
