Howdy fellow comrades!
Another message from your local Houston chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America, letting y'all know of a packed weekend that we have in store.
Back 2 Class Extravaganza
First off, we welcome students and teachers return back to classes, whether in grade school or college.
Today, we will be holding a concert with speakers as well, over at Bohemeo's (708 Telephone Road, Houston, TX). Doors open at 6pm, and we are asking $5 cover.
At the event we celebrate the students and teachers of the Houston area, and also raise awareness of important subject matters, like the HISD takeover, the unfair pay that the UH English Department deals with, the struggles of our union workers, and more. Teachers are the backbone of our society, and for the well-being of our children, and Texas treats them like they are disposable item, and we won't stand for that!
Please come and show your support, and meet the new UH YDSA chapter as they build and grow to help the working class in the University of Houston!

Black August Political Education
This Saturday, August 19th, our Abolition WG announces an internal political education event talking about what is known as Black August.
We are holding an event at the Heights Neighborhood Library (1302 Heights Blvd, Houston, TX) from 2:30 - 4:30pm.
This event is part of the Political Prisoner Solidarity Campaign.
Black August commemorates the lives of fallen freedom fighters for Black Liberation, the fight of all political prisoners for liberation and the continued struggles specifically within the USA. We will discuss the origins of Black August, the continued fight against Black Oppression by the racist state and write letters of solidarity to political prisoners.
None of us are free until all of us are free!
This will be a members only event.
Please email us for more info.
2023 National Convention Briefing
Last but not least, we will have on Sunday, August 20th, a discussion panel with our fellow delegates as they share their experiences from the DSA National Convention.
Many of us are stoked to have gone, and full of energy and want to share this enthusiasm to the rest of the chapter!
Come to Rudyard's (2010 Waugh Dr, Houston, TX), starting at 2pm till 4pm.
We will talk about the resolutions that were voted on, what passed and failed, our experiences and what our chapter can look to doing in the future as we step up to become a stronger group to rival the other chapters of DSA.
At the same time, we encourage you to come, as we mentioned in past notices, we are looking to vote on the endorsement of Pervez Agwan, a fellow member running for Congress!
