1) National Popular Vote Would Screw the Small States
We’re hearing a lot of chatter about scrapping the electoral college and moving to the National Popular Vote to choose the president. Even some Republicans are endorsing this truly dreadful idea. It would overturn our Founding Fathers’ brilliant design of an election system based on federalism – with the power residing where it belongs – with the states.

It is simple math that with a national popular vote, the president would essentially be elected by about a dozen highly populated states: California, Texas, Florida, New York, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, Georgia, New Jersey, and Virginia. Small states would become irrelevant. Their voices would be unheard in presidential elections.

Our friends at the Leadership Institute have done a great public service in calculating which states would lose 20% or more of their political power under National Popular Vote schemes. Six small states would lose more than 50% of their influence in choosing the president and vice president.

Here's a list of States that will lose the most political influence under a national popular vote:

Note that many of these small states that lose power are blue states. So this isn’t a partisan issue. Anyone who lives in one of these 18 states and wants a National Popular Vote should have their head examined.

2) America Has the World’s Cheapest Natural Gas – Why Aren’t We Using It?
We’ve often made the point on these pages that natural gas is the world’s wonder fuel: cheap, abundant, made-in-America, reliable, AND clean burning. The left’s war against natural gas is indescribably stupid given that the single biggest factor in reducing carbon emissions into the atmosphere has been the increased reliance on natural gas for electric power generation.

No country has more natural gas than America. The innovations that spurred the natural gas shale revolution of the last 15 years were horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing.

Our friend Harold Hamm of Continental Resources – the godfather of the shale revolution – sent us this remarkable chart on the impact on the American economy relative to other nations. Our U.S. natural gas price has fallen by more than half while the rest of the world has seen their prices double or triple. All we need to dominate this market for decades to come are LNG terminals, pipelines, and drilling permits. Why isn’t this happening?

3) COVID Experts Calling For Masks (Even at Home) Again
There’s been a slight uptick in reported cases of COVID, and so now the very same people who supported the destructive lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 are back with new advice. Epidemiologist Katelyn Jetelina told the PBS NewsHour that people should consider wearing masks again “Certainly, at home, it works, if you want to reduce household transmission.” She did opine that it wasn’t necessary to now wear a mask when walking a dog but “just be distant of other people.”

Watch here:

The New York Times didn’t waste any time quoting Jetelina under the headline: “Amid Signs of a COVID Uptick, Researchers Brace for the ‘New Normal.”

Here we go again…

4) Whatever Happened to “Save the Whales?”
State officials on the East Coast are investigating whether the increased ship traffic and intense sonar mapping associated with building offshore wind turbines have led to an unprecedented number of dead whales landing on local beaches in recent months.

The Biden administration denies there’s any connection, claiming that something else must be causing the mammals to beach. But residents of coastal communities in the Northeast say the government is engaged in blatant “hypocrisy” after the same federal agencies almost regulated local fishermen completely out of business in an effort to protect whales, without any data showing fishermen bring any harm to them. Now the Feds are resisting efforts to get to the bottom of why so many whales are washing up dead on beaches.

Michael Shellenberger, an environmentalist who’s broken with extreme “green groups,” has now produced a new documentary called "Thrown To The Wind," that examines the whale controversy.

[link removed]
“The biggest 'green' groups in America are completely in the tank when it comes to renewable energy,” says energy analyst Robert Bryce. “They aren’t concerned about the ongoing slaughter of our wildlife by the wind industry.” Marine life is the latest casualty of the climate-industrial complex.

5) Oops! ABC Accidentally Caught Telling the Truth About Climate Change
Our friend Marc Morano of the must-read website Climatedepot.com spotted two before-and-after dueling headlines from ABC News regarding the horrific Maui fires:

Notice the difference? Someone added the word "entirely."

Gee, we wonder what happened here. Here's Marc's speculation and ours too:

The left went raving mad when they saw a mainstream media voice deviating from the climate change manual. How dare they? Don't they understand the first rule of modern journalism that EVERY natural disaster and weather-related death is a byproduct of climate change and oil drilling?

Some reporters at ABC didn't get the memo, so the editors dutifully stepped i. and got back with the program. Phew. What a shame it would be if this disaster weren’t used to score political points.
