You may have lost some sleep Monday night watching the late night announcement of Donald Trumps fourth indictment following a repeated patter of criminal activity. The former president was indicted in Georgia for leading a criminal conspiracy to overturn the 2020 elections. This latest indictment details how Mr. Trump led a months-long plot pushing the Big Lie to steal an election, undermine our democracy, and overturn the will of the people of Georgia.
Democrats of Indian River Vice Chair of Outreach, Bob Bruner, spoke with WPTV regarding the 41 charges. “The judicial system moves slowly,” Bruner said. “Sometimes it’s hard to be patient to watch and make sure that people are held responsible for the crimes that they commit.”
The actions taken by the Fulton County District Attorney, along with other state and federal prosecutors, reaffirms the shared belief that in America no one, not even the president, is above the law. Bob said, “There’s a lot of people who’ve got to be held responsible for the crimes that they’ve committed against democracy.”

Education Update
Florida has one of the the worst teacher shortages in the country with over 7,000 teacher vacancies statewide and this month students are returning to school without teachers. Indian River County School District has 17 teacher job openings, St. Lucie County School District has 124 vacant teaching jobs, and Palm Beach County School District has 453 teacher vacancies.
Recent attacks on education have made teachers’ jobs harder and caused widespread confusion on what books can be read and what courses can be offered – and that’s the point. Ron DeSantis has turned our classrooms into warzones.
Meanwhile, the Republican Party is indoctrinating our children with far-right propaganda and attempting to rewrite history with the approval of the pro-slavery PragerU curriculum.
Last Thursday, Florida Democrats held a press conference ([link removed]) in Palm Beach — the county hardest hit by recent GOP attacks on education and with the highest number of teacher vacancies in the state. It's time that we end culture wars in our schools and raise teacher pay.
Watch the press conference below and make a plan to attend the next Indian River County School Board meeting Monday August 28, 2023 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Details here ([link removed]) .
