Friends,
By now, you’ve likely heard the news that, just last week, Ohioans rejected - by a huge margin - a ballot measure that would’ve made it harder to pass a Constitutional amendment.
The election was seen as a proxy for abortion rights - Democrats were working on a Constitutional amendment to codify reproductive rights this November, and in response, Ohio Republicans rushed this special election to put obstacles in their way.
The people of Ohio stood up and sent a powerful message that they won’t allow the GOP to further restrict their freedoms.
This election has deep significance for the future of abortion access in our country - for one thing, it’s proof that Americans across the political spectrum won’t tolerate infringements on our foundational freedoms like bodily autonomy.
For another, it’s a powerful and important reminder that abortion is a kitchen table issue!
But still - there are too many places in our country where abortion access has already been decimated, so we must take action in Congress.
If I’m re-elected and Democrats win back the House of Representatives in 2024, I can promise I’ll do everything in my power to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade at the federal level. But I need your help: Can you pitch in $25 or more to my re-election campaign to make sure I can hold onto my seat and support other Democrats running in key districts next year? Look, the Midwest has trended toward the GOP over the last ten years. But if a state like Ohio can stand up so strongly for abortion rights, just think of what that could mean for the upcoming election in 2024.
We need to press our advantage and send a message to the Republicans in Congress that when you mess with our freedoms, you won’t get re-elected - and you certainly won’t get to maintain your majority.
Thanks for your support,
