All these issues are intersectional—labor rights, LGBTQIA+ rights, justice and equity.

Dear friend,

Recently I was asked to be on a TV series about George Santos, talking about how he was elected to Congress and was trying to hide the fact that he was a drag performer.

I’ve spoken to the press about Santos before—his story is almost the complete opposite of mine. While he is a Republican, not standing for any LGBTQIA+ issues, I am a Democrat, a proud out trans person, and a proud drag queen who vows to protect all LGBTQIA+ people in Congress.

Appearing on TV might have been a great opportunity for the campaign. But ultimately, I decided to decline it.

I stand in solidarity with the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes—I cannot provide content to networks who deny writers and actors a fair share of their work.

These issues are all intersectional. If you support trans people, you support economic equity. If you support environmental justice, you support racial justice.

People have called this an “identity politics campaign.” Yes, being trans is my identity. But I use that identity as a vantage point to advocate for all.

Thank you for being a part of this fight with me—our network of allies is continuing to grow, and I’m confident we will prevail in this now-19 candidate primary coming up (!).

We can win this, if we continue to stand together.

In solidarity,

Maebe
