John,
Everyone knows that our current immigration system is deeply flawed, cruel and broken. And we can and MUST do better.
Pramila's citizenship story is all too familiar to the millions of families who have endured our current immigration system. As the first South Asian woman elected to the House, and one of only two dozen naturalized citizens to be elected to Congress, Pramila spent 17 years fighting for her citizenship due to an out-of-date and difficult-to-navigate immigration system.
It's long past time for comprehensive immigration reform that guarantees a HUMANE system for ALL. That's why Pramila is working tirelessly to bring transformative legislation to support immigrants and encourage safe and effective pathways to citizenship. If you stand with our movement, please consider supporting Pramila and her work in Congress by making a contribution to our collective movement today.
Immigrants deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. Yet Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has tirelessly spearheaded efforts to unnecessarily threaten the lives of immigrants who are fighting to cross the river in search of asylum. It's beyond cruel.
Let's be clear, John: These tragic outcomes of our current broken immigration system are a conscious policy choice. Any humane country and state would do everything to protect the lives of immigrants.
But instead, the Texas government decided to string millions of razor sharp coils along the riverbank and install a wall of sharp buoys — deliberately making it deadly to seek asylum. Not only is this dangerous, it's blatantly evil.
Together, we can and must fight for real reform that modernizes our immigration systems and ensures that no person is forced to wait extraordinary times to become a citizen, or even risk their lives and the lives of their families to search for safety. There's so much work that needs to be done both in and out of Congress, but together we can fight for what's truly right.
Now more than ever, we need the entirety of our collective voice to step up and show up for immigrants. Please chip in today to support Pramila and our collective movement as we fight for transformative immigration reform.
In solidarity,
Team Pramila
